Your privacy matters

HandheldDatabase is a reference site, not a store for your personal data. This policy explains the limited information we handle, how we use it, and the rights you have under EU/UK, California, and other US privacy laws.

Last updated: June 10, 2026

Information we collect

You can browse HandheldDatabase without creating an account or giving us any personal information. We only receive personal data if you choose to send it — for example, by emailing us or using a contact form, in which case we receive the contents of your message and your email address.

Like most websites, our servers and any analytics tools may automatically record basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, approximate region, and the pages you visit. This is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used and to keep it running and secure.

Cookies & analytics

We may use cookies or similar technologies to remember preferences and to measure traffic in aggregate. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some conveniences may not be remembered between visits. Where required by law, non-essential cookies are only set with your consent.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Clicking such a link may share standard referral information with the destination retailer, who handles that data under their own privacy policy.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above to respond to your messages, operate, maintain, and improve the site, measure traffic in aggregate, and keep the site secure and protected against abuse. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Legal bases for processing (EU/UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we process personal data only where we have a lawful basis to do so under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR. Depending on the situation, that basis is one of the following:

  • Consent — for example, where you agree to non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the site and to respond to your enquiries, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where we must process data to comply with the law.

Your rights — EU & UK (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
  • The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • The right to erasure (the “right to be forgotten”).
  • The right to restrict or object to our processing.
  • The right to data portability.
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@handhelddatabase.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by law (generally one month under the GDPR).

Your rights — California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you the following rights:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information.
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.
  • The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information.
  • The right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of these rights.

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information from visitors. To make a California privacy request, email privacy@handhelddatabase.com.

Your rights — other US states

Residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws — including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others — have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of their personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale of personal data. We honour these rights for all US visitors; to exercise them, contact us at privacy@handhelddatabase.com.

Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected — for example, we keep the contents of email enquiries for as long as necessary to handle your request and for our records, and aggregate analytics data for a limited period. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

International data transfers

HandheldDatabase is operated from, and its servers and service providers may be located in, countries that differ from where you live, including the United States. Where personal data of EEA or UK visitors is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, so your data remains protected wherever it is processed.

Children's privacy

HandheldDatabase is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. In line with the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the GDPR, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the applicable age of digital consent in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited personal data we handle. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third-party services

We rely on third-party providers for hosting, analytics, and outbound retailer links. These providers process data on our behalf or under their own policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external site you visit through our links.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the “last updated” date in the header reflects the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
